Jailbreak 7.1.1 iOS Semi Untethered on iPhone 4 with GeekSn0w Tutorial

Jailbreak iOS 7.1.1 Semi Untethered on iPhone 4 using Geeksn0w

– Today, amidst iOS 7.1.1 (Apple’s latest firmware firmware update, which was released on Tuesday) and the considerable amount of clamor it’s caused in the jailbreak community, popular iOS and jailbreak YouTuber iCrackUriDevice created a new video tutorial for how to jailbreak 7.1.1 on the iPhone 4 using the all-new GeekSn0w utility. The latest GeekSn0w for iOS 7.1.1, like its predecessor, is based on winocm’s opensn0w project, which in turn is powered largely in part by Geohot’s now-ancient 2010 limera1n bootrom exploit. Due to the fact that limra1n only functions on devices powered by A4 CPUs, GeekSn0w’s support doesn’t extend beyond the iPhone 4 (the last A4-based device Apple supports on iOS 7). While the updated version of GeekSn0w is still incredible and will undoubtedly assist millions of iPhone 4 owners in jailbreaking 7.1.1, the utility is an updated and modified version of both winocm’s opensn0w and Geohot’s work with limera1n from four years ago that allows iPhone 4 owners to achieve a Semi UnTethered iOS 7.1.1 jailbreak. The process detailed in this in-depth written jailbreak 7.1.1 tutorial will function on GSM and CDMA iPhone 4 devices running iOS 7.1.1 – newer iPhone, iPad and iPod touch owners should refer to, and make use of, our UnTethered 7.0.6 evasion tutorial if at all possible.

As previously mentioned, the new GeekSn0w jailbreak 7.1.1 tool supports the following iPhone models running iOS 7.1.1:
  • iPhone 4 GSM (both AT&T and Global versions)
  • iPhone 4 GSM Revision A
  • iPhone 4 CDMA (Verizon)
Additionally, due to limera1n and the iOS 7.1.1 jailbreak’s “Tethered” nature, iPhone 4 owners will be required to boot their devices Tethered with GeekSn0w every time the device is turned off to regain full usability. However, since the last iteration of GeekSn0w, the Developer BlackGeekTutorial has made significant updates to his tool that enable “Semi-Tethered” reboots on 7.1.1, which allow jailbreakers to use the majority of their devices (save Cydia, jailbreak extensions, Safari and the Mail app) without a complete Tethered reboot.  With GeekSn0w’s limitations in mind, you can proceed with this tutorial to achieve a Semi UnTethered 7.1.1 jailbreak on your iPhone 4.

  1. In addition to GeekSn0w for iOS 7.1.1, download all of the necessary files in our download section, which is listed below, to ensure that you’ve obtained genuine software.
  2. Upon the successful installation of JDK (Java Development Kit), right click the GeekSn0w executable file and give the program administrative privileges by clicking “Run as administrator” .
  3. Connect your GSM or CDMA iPhone 4 to your computer via Apple’s standard 30-pin USB cable and enter DFU mode by holding both the home and power buttons for a total of ten seconds. Once ten seconds has passed, release the power button and continue holding the home button for an additional ten seconds.
  4. Inside GeekSn0w’s interface, click the “Jailbreak” button and refer to the status given by GeekSn0w.
  5. Leave your iPhone connected and enter DFU mode for a second time when prompted to; refer to the third step if you require further assistance for entering DFU mode.
  6. After the iPhone 4 reboots, the process executed by the GeekSn0w tool will force the iPhone to auto-boot after roughly two minutes, requiring you to enter DFU mode again (refer to the third step for further assistance).
  7. Once the third reboot has finished, the iPhone 4 should display a welcome sight, Cydia. However, your device won’t be fully usable until it restrings after reorganizing the filesystem.
  • Reminder: as stated in the opening paragraphs of this iOS 7.1.1 jailbreak tutorial, to regain full functionality of your iPhone 4, you’ll be required to boot your device Tethered with GeekSn0w after every reboot.
Congratulations, after completing only eight simple and easy-to-interpret steps, you’ve successfully jailbroken your iPhone 4 on iOS 7.1.1!
